Located in Niamey, Niger, the Universities of Niger project is a large-scale masterplan conceived to support the national strategy for higher education development. The project was presented at the highest state level and officially marked by the laying of the first stone in the presence of former President Mohamed Bazoum, highlighting its strategic importance for the country.
Our design approach is driven by the ambition to create a coherent, functional, and scalable university environment capable of accommodating academic growth over time. The project is structured as a comprehensive campus integrating teaching, research, student life, and administrative facilities within a unified architectural vision.
The masterplan is organized to ensure clarity of circulation, functional zoning, and strong relationships between buildings and outdoor spaces. We designed the campus as an open and evolving structure, promoting interaction, orientation, and accessibility while maintaining a strong spatial identity.
A key focus of the project is the creation of a livable academic environment, where landscape and architecture are closely interconnected. Open courtyards, shaded pedestrian areas, and transitional outdoor spaces play a central role in shaping the student experience and improving climatic comfort.
Given the scale of the project, flexibility and phasing were essential design principles, allowing the campus to grow progressively while maintaining coherence in its overall composition and architectural language.
Through this project, we express a vision of university architecture that combines functionality, identity, and urban quality, creating a major educational landmark for Niger that supports both academic excellence and long-term territorial development.
