Located in the W National Park, Niger, on the banks of the Niger River, this lodge is conceived as an eco-sensitive hospitality project deeply embedded within one of West Africa’s most exceptional natural environments. Situated in a protected UNESCO biosphere reserve, the project is designed with a minimal environmental footprint, prioritizing preservation, integration, and reversibility.
Our architectural approach is guided by a clear ecological intention: to build with nature rather than against it. The lodge is organized as a light and discreet intervention, carefully positioned to follow the natural topography and preserve the integrity of the river landscape and surrounding savannah.
The architectural concept is based on a strong dialogue between nature and construction, where the lodge becomes an extension of its environment. The spatial layout is oriented toward the Niger River, maximizing views, natural ventilation, and thermal comfort while maintaining privacy and a close relationship with the landscape.
The project is designed using an ecological construction system based on wood and straw structure, combined with local and natural materials. This approach ensures low environmental impact, excellent thermal performance, and a strong connection to traditional building techniques adapted to the local climate. The use of timber frameworks, straw-based insulation, and earth-toned finishes reinforces the project’s authenticity and sustainability.
Outdoor spaces are central to the experience, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior and allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. The architecture remains intentionally simple and lightweight, ensuring that the landscape remains the dominant element of the experience.
Through this project, we express a vision of sustainable hospitality architecture where ecological construction, material honesty, and landscape integration come together to create a sensitive and immersive retreat in the heart of the W National Park.
