Located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, we designed the Ouagadougou Clinic as a contemporary multi-specialty polyclinic developed over R+4, bringing together several medical departments within a coherent, functional, and efficient architectural system. The project is driven by our ambition to create a healthcare environment that combines operational performance, patient comfort, and architectural clarity.
Our architectural concept is based on a clear hierarchy and separation of functions, where each level is dedicated to specific medical specialties while maintaining smooth and legible circulation between departments. The vertical organization allows us to optimize flows, ensure accessibility, and provide flexibility for the future evolution of the clinic’s medical services.
We aimed to move beyond a purely technical approach to healthcare architecture by creating a more human and calming environment. The interior spaces are designed around clarity, natural light, and spatial readability, helping to reduce stress for patients while improving working conditions for medical staff. Waiting areas and circulation spaces are conceived as calm and intuitive sequences rather than simple corridors.
Given the hot climate of Ouagadougou, we integrated a strong environmental strategy into the design. The façade acts as a climatic filter, combining controlled openings, shading devices, and carefully selected materials to reduce heat gain while maintaining controlled natural daylight. This approach contributes directly to both patient comfort and energy efficiency.
The architectural expression remains sober and institutional, defined by precision, durability, and a contemporary identity suited to a healthcare facility. Our intention was to create a building that is both efficient and reassuring, where architecture actively supports care, organization, and well-being.
Through this project, we express our vision of healthcare architecture as a balance between technical performance, spatial quality, and human sensitivity, resulting in a polyclinic that is functional, adaptable, and firmly rooted in its context.
